The Arenal volcano area puts you in striking distance of all sorts of activities outside of your accommodations. Local attractions include fantastic canopy tours on zip lines through the tree tops of the local jungle. In contrast, a couple can rest in the serenity of thermal mineral waters that are heated from the lava flowing below the volcanic soil. One of the most breathtaking sights is to see actual lava run down the top of the Arenal volcano in a fire ball at night. Many of hotels have natural spas and hot pools. In the area are several renowned hot springs resorts. A favorite of FCR guests, the hot springs resorts offer luxury spa services, private hot tubs in secluded settings and communal hot tubs that include an in-the-swimming- pool bar that seats thirty people. Open yourself to the experience of a couples massage in a tropical setting outside under the stars while soft music plays and you sip a little champagne. You may want to sample the ample buffet laid out in the restaurant before returning to your honeymoon suite.
On popular honeymoon adventure that the staff of FCR recommends is the canopy tour with horses. The area surrounding Arenal has some superior zip lines where clients are harnessed safely onto a series of pulleys that allow one to fly through the air up to 300 meters above the ground and with some lines almost a thousand meters in length. These tours may start in a cart pulled by a tractor where clients can view waterfalls cascading below. From the overlooks, it's a 15 minute walk into the primary forest. Your guide will discuss the nature of the area. The surrounding forest is home to toucans, monkeys and a variety of frogs.
The first time you are hooked into a zip line you are certainly paying attention. Our favorite tour operators use up to 11 lines of various lengths to “zip” you from platform to platform through the treetops. By the end of the excursion, you may feel like superwoman but you will have known you've had a shot of fear factor. Words can't describe the thrill of zipping out of a green canopy, suspended in midair, as you fly past a waterfall and make a safe landing on the next platform with your guide and instructors.
In the three to five days you might want to spend in the Arenal area, there is of course local shopping, walking tours, great biking opportunities and local butterfly farms and wildlife exhibits. FCR can put you on the trail with the best guides (with as little or the most help that you may need).
